How to Get Started Writing Your Memoir

You’ll need to set asside a time of day where you will have no disstractions; give up one TV-show a night, spend less time with friends and family. You simply can not be productive without taking time each day to wirte something, even if it is to just ponder as what to write. Your story will all come together in time.

What is a memoir? It is a manuscript created from notes you take or from an interview we take while interviewing youu or your loved one. Ask yourself a series of questions such as:

1) How would you want to be remembered?

2) Who were some of the most influential people who changed your life forever?

3) What were some of the most dramatic interesting things that happened to you or your loved ones in your lifetime?

4) What are you most proud of? (It might be your kids, career, a particular skill or talent or an achievement.)

5) Which were some of the best days of your life, and why?

6) If you could have done anything in your life, what would it have been?

7) What effect have your had on the world and what would have been different if you hadn’t been born?

After asking those questions, you answer them. Whether you're using a pen and pad or a computer to do it, you write about al the things you would like to share. You can always edit later. Never judge or edit your work while you're writing. It doesn't matter if it's grammatically correct or if you have misspelled words. Keep writing. It may take some time, and this is fine. This is the first draft after all. It's not supposed to be perfect.. The best writers in the world know that rewriting is the essence of writing well.

Keep your memoir interesting to readers express your feelings. No one else has had your experiences or reacted in the same way.

The mass majority of the people in the world lead boring lives. But every single one of them is trying to make some sense out of his or her existence, to find some meaning in the world, and therein lies the value and opportunity of memoir.

Writing about your life

Threading related experiences together, you see a pattern in the quilt of your existence. It’s about creating a legacy that doesn’t have dollar signs in front of it but has far greater residual value for family and friends.SAY IN MY OWN WORDS
